The first step in any custom storage project is an honest measurement of your space  not just the opening, but the ceiling height, any cornicing or coving, skirting board projection, door swing radius, and the position of light switches and sockets. In older Dubai developments, walls are rarely perfectly square, and in newer high-rises, floor-to-ceiling heights vary between units on the same floor.

General rules that hold in most UAE spaces: plan for a minimum 60cm clearance in front of any wardrobe with swing doors; allow 70cm for a wardrobe walkway in a walk-in configuration; floating shelves in high-humidity bathrooms should sit no lower than 30cm from a wet zone. We apply these standards automatically  you don’t need to calculate them yourself.

Material Selection for UAE’s Climate

Material choice in UAE storage furniture is not aesthetic  it’s functional. The combination of air conditioning (which dries interiors rapidly), coastal humidity (which does the opposite), and sandstorm dust (which finds every gap) means the wrong material selection will cost you in two to three years.

Moisture-resistant MDF (MR-MDF): The right choice for bathrooms, kitchens, and any space with humidity variation. Standard MDF is not appropriate for these areas  it will swell at joints within 18 months.

High-pressure laminate (HPL): Excellent scratch and wear resistance for high-traffic areas like shoe cabinets and children’s storage. Significantly more durable than standard melamine-faced board.

Solid wood and wood veneer: Beautiful and long-lasting when used correctly. Avoid in direct AC airflow paths, which can cause checking (surface cracking) in unseasoned wood over time. Veneer over MDF substrate is typically more stable in UAE conditions than solid wood boards.

PVC foil wrap: Cost-effective and highly moisture-resistant. Excellent for utility areas and bathrooms. Limited in edge detail complexity compared to lacquered finishes.

Lacquered finishes: The premium choice for wardrobes and display units. Two-pack polyurethane lacquer in matte, satin, or gloss holds colour accurately and resists yellowing in the intense UAE sunlight that comes through apartment glass. Requires professional application  which is what we provide.

What materials work best for storage furniture in Dubai’s climate?

For living rooms and bedrooms with standard air conditioning: HPL laminate and quality melamine-faced MDF are excellent, durable, and easy to maintain. Wood veneer over MDF substrate performs well and looks beautiful.

For bathrooms and utility rooms with moisture exposure: moisture-resistant MDF (MR-MDF) with PVC foil or lacquered finish is essential. Standard MDF will swell at the joints within 18 months in a humid bathroom this is one of the most common furniture failures we see.

For high-traffic areas (hallways, children’s rooms): HPL is significantly more impact and scratch-resistant than standard melamine. Worth the marginal price difference for pieces that take daily abuse.

What warranty covers my custom storage?

All Kustom Deco storage furniture carries a 12-month manufacturing warranty covering structural defects, hardware failure (hinges, runners, soft-close mechanisms), and finish defects under normal use conditions. Soft-close hardware is warranted separately for 24 months as it is the highest-wear component.

Warranty claims are straightforward: contact us via WhatsApp or email with a photo description and we’ll assess and resolve within 5 business days. We do not require lengthy paperwork or formal claims processes.

Can I see material samples before ordering?

Yes, in two ways. At our Arjan showroom, you can view and touch the full range of laminate, HPL, veneer, and lacquer finishes alongside actual hardware samples. For customers who cannot visit, we can send a material sample kit to your address in Dubai or the northern emirates  contact us to request one.

For colour-critical decisions  particularly whites, greys, and greiges  we strongly recommend seeing the finish in person before ordering. Monitor and phone screens render these tones very inconsistently.

What if I need a non-standard size?

Non-standard sizes are our standard. We don’t build to fixed dimensions and offer a range of sizes  we build to your exact measurements, whatever they are. A wardrobe that’s 2,340mm wide and 2,480mm tall because that’s your alcove exactly is a perfectly normal order for us.

The most common non-standard requests we fulfil: wardrobes that fit under sloped ceilings in townhouses, TV units that navigate structural columns, shoe cabinets for narrow corridors under 60cm, and floor-to-ceiling systems in high-rise apartments with 280cm+ ceiling heights. None of these are problems. All of them require custom production  which is exactly what we do.

Yes, always. Nothing we deliver requires customer assembly. The process typically takes 1–3 hours depending on the size of the order.

We leave your space clean. Tools, packaging, and offcuts are removed entirely.

What happens if I need to make changes after confirming my order?

Changes to design, dimensions, or finish are possible before production begins  typically within the first 24–48 hours after confirmation. Once a unit enters the cutting and fabrication stage, structural changes are no longer possible, though minor hardware or internal fitting adjustments may still be accommodated.

This is why we invest time in the design approval stage before production starts. If you’re uncertain about any element, flag it before confirming  it’s far simpler to adjust a drawing than a completed cabinet.

How do I care for my custom storage furniture?

For laminate and HPL surfaces: wipe with a slightly damp microfibre cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads. For lacquered finishes: dry or slightly damp cloth only  no chemical cleaners. For wood veneer: dry cloth for dust, occasional light application of furniture wax or oil on the veneer surface.

Hardware care: soft-close hinges and drawer runners are maintenance-free under normal use. If a hinge becomes misaligned after a year or two of use, this is a normal adjustment  all Kustom Deco hinges are adjustable via a standard cross-head screwdriver, and we can guide you through the adjustment over WhatsApp if needed.

Are there child-safe options for storage furniture?

Yes. All our standard hardware is soft-close, which significantly reduces the risk of finger-pinching for young children. Additional child-safety options available on request: internal key-lock drawers for medicines and hazardous items, rounded internal corners on lower drawer compartments, anti-tip wall anchoring on all freestanding units (standard on our installation), and soft-close speed adjustment to near-silent slow-close for very young children.

Can I order spare parts or additional shelves later?

Yes. Because we manufacture each piece ourselves, we maintain production records for every order. Spare shelves, additional drawers, replacement hinges, and matching finish panels are all available to order after the fact. This is one of the practical advantages of ordering from the manufacturer directly  there’s no “discontinued” product and no discontinued finish that leaves you unable to add a matching unit.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit and debit cards, bank transfer (AED), and cash at our showroom. Interest-free instalment plans are available through select payment partners for orders above AED 2,500. Contact us for current instalment options  these are updated periodically.

Can I visit the showroom without an appointment?

Yes  our showroom at Arjan – Al Barsha South is open Saturday through Friday, 10am to 8pm. No appointment required for browsing. If you want dedicated consultation time with one of our furniture specialists  particularly for larger projects or full room storage planning  booking ahead via WhatsApp ensures you get uninterrupted attention. Walk-in consultations are available when the team is free, which is most of the time outside of weekend peak hours.
